First off I need to start with a little background info about me. So I graduated from university & moved out to LA in January. It’s thanks to the internship that I have now out here that I got to meet Grant. Without giving too much away I will say I work with a product placement company that works with celebrities as well as charities.
In honour of The Grammys, held earlier this month, my boss decided to partner with the Fender Music Foundation to help raise awareness for their cause:
“The Fender Music Foundation believes that music participation is an essential element in the fabric of an enduring society. Our mission is to have the benefits of making music available to everyone in the communities in which we serve, to promote its importance through education and media initiatives, and to provide financial and in-kind resources in collaboration with other organizations to achieve our common goal.”
So seeing as Grant has grown up with an arts education, been in a touring Broadway production (the first national tour of the West Side Story revival) and is now on Glee I thought he was a perfect person to bring it. Plus I thought he deserved a “little reward” for all the hard work. So I sent out a message to the appropriate channels and got a message back from his manager on Friday saying he’d love to come in Monday (today).
So that gave me a weekend to freak out over this news a little and get just about everyone I know to get jealous of me. Today I got into work an hour earlier than I was supposed to (nerves & REALLY great traffic in Hollywood are to thank for that.) So I get to work and my boss tells me that they may have to reschedule Grant because their usual photographers were still busy editing their Oscar photos (why we don’t have an in-house photographer to start with, I just don’t know!). Well me, being the thinker that I am, goes well *I* know a photographer to save our asses! So I peeled home (PSA: ALWAYS OBEY STREET SIGNS and rules of the road kids, they are there for your PROTECTION!) to wake Nicole from her nap (No Nicole is not a narcoleptic, we actually literally haven’t slept since 9am Sunday thanks to going to see Live! with Kelly Post Oscar Special). I shook her awake and within 5 minutes we were headed out the door back to my work.
We get back to work and make sure everything is set up properly. About half an hour later in walks Grant & his manager (Robert). Now I knew how tall Grant was so I was prepared for that (FYI he’s 6’2”, same-ish height as my brother). And let me just say thank GOODNESS for some tall boys left out here (I’m 5’11” okay?). First and most important thing I can say about Grant Gustin is that he is a genuine, kind hearted, sincere guy. Robert and him came over and introduced themselves to us right away and Nicole was quick to make the connection with him that she was one of the first people to send him fan mail (She sent him a Warbler shirt back in the day!). While Nicole chatted to Robert (a whole lot of MARVELLOUS things to say about Darren Criss!!), my boss & I walked Grant around the office & helped him pick out a couple things.
we have Pandora playing at work and totally by coinicedence Glad You Came (The Wanted) was playing when he walked in. He turned to me and was like, “This is kind of surreal that they’re playing this song!” We completed laughed about it and my boss was like “I don’t get it.” We gave each other a knowing look and then I said, “He just covered this song on Glee.” My boss asked him if his version was better and he turned to me as to say, “What did YOU think?” So we both settled with his was different compared to the original (I mentioned it was all a cappella!)
As we walked around he mentioned his family a bit (his brother we all know is coming into LA this weekend) & his little sister. Pretty much he said they were all cooler than him; but we were like, YOU’RE the one on Broadway & T.V. - that makes you cool to us. Nicole & I also mentioned JMOMS as well as Curt & Dom’s show coming up. He also mentioned his disappointment about missing Darren on Broadway. We did give him 2 “Evolution of Darren” pins & a Darren Criss Flashmob bracelet so he’s got those little trinkets now! :D I’m SURE we talked about more stuff but it’s just not registering at the moment (maybe send me an ask if you’re interested?)
So Nicole took the pictures my boss wanted; no the original originals are not going to be made available to the public. (But she has some fun edits going up soon)
Finally at the very end we asked to get our pictures with him which he was super okay with (even though we may have been slightly awkward about). And to settle the debate, he smells nothing like Craigslist - he actually smells rather lovely! (a mixture of clean freshness & California sun is how we’ve decided to describe it).
So I *believe* that’s all
OH!! And No he didn’t actually BREAK anything, just knocked some things around the way us clumsy people do. And in his defence, that one thing was on WHEELS! lol
*~*FIN*~*
this was my day in a nutshell :)
it).” *__* i’m speechless, lucky, lucky you!
